NeXus profile vs. measurement group

Profiles and measurment groups (MGs) are closely related. The former contain the full specification of the NeXus files, whereas the latter store the Sardana device selection. MGs are a subset of the profiles. All tools changing the device selection try to keep profile and MG consistent.

• A profile is an extension of the measurement group containing additional information about descriptive components and user data.

• Profiles are inspected by:

  spock> lsprof
  

  Measurement groups are inspected by:

  spock> lsmeas
  

• Devices can be selected using: change_mg, nxset, nxsetprof, nxselector and exp_conf. These tools change the profile and the measurement group.
