UPS issues: 'UPS did not shut down the PC', 'devices not automatically re-powered'.

gnome-shell trouble: gnome-setting-daemon and cips-bgrowsed create socket which
enter the CLOSE_WAIT state. this happens until system resources are exhausted.
Workaround: log-off/log-on once per week. Status: ongoing.
SardanaMonitor: the result of the SSA (simple scan analysis) is now
displayed as a Gaussian. See
