News: gnome-shell trouble

• gnome-shell trouble: gnome-setting-daemon and cups-browsed create sockets which enter the CLOSE_WAIT state. This happens until system resources are exhausted. Workaround: log-off/log-on once per week.

  Hannes wrote a script that detects open sockets and does a 'kill -1' for the gnome-settings-daemon, if necessary. However, this action may lead to a frozen desktop. Decided to stop the execution the script.

  New procedure: open sockets are now checked by a daily cron job and BL scientists will be informed, if necessary.

  Btw.: with Debian-9 this problem should be solved.

• UPS issues: 'UPS did not shut down the PC', 'devices not automatically re-powered'. Status: on hold.

• SardanaMonitor: mesh scan, status ongoing.

• New Oms feature: MoveLoop, use case: fast mesh scans. Status: first tests OK, further testing needed.
