FS IT Upgrades 2017/18

Upgrade of the FS IT infrastructure, based on plans from May 2016. Idea: double the resources.

• Compute servers: order 8 server a 12 kEUR (32 cores, 512 GB RAM) and 3 server with GPU (32 cores, 512 GB RAM, K40) a 15 kEUR, total: 140 kEUR

  New requirements: more CPU power, CPU and GPU, 'huge RAM' PCs (O(1TB)), modern GPUs.

• GPFS Core Cluster: current: 1.0 PB, GL-6 (1.8 PB) costs: 300 kEUR

• Infiniband: 2x DER switches (a 36 ports) total: 25 kEUR

• GPFS Beamline Cluster Upgrade: costs unclear so far

• GS2 Upgrade for metadata and burst buffer, 100 kEUR, DONE

• Proxies for 2D detectors: n x 12 kEUR

• Group Storage, now 415 TB fuer 115 kEUR, should be doubled.
