ZMQ Use Cases

In order to avoid unnecessary disk I/O and to make best use of the network capacity, IT is currently implementing a ZMQ transport layer. So far the following use cases have been considered:

• 'Staubsauger': move (image) files from a local DetetorPC disk to GPFS, Linux and Windows. Roll-out has been partially done. This use case has the highest priority because the Staubsauger has been successfully operated already (P11) and several detectors can instantly benefit from it.

• 'Lambda': the Lambda Tango server uses the ZMQ API to push the data to the NeXus writer running on central IT resources. Commenced.

• 'ImageViewer': the IMageViewer pulls images at a rate of about 1 Hz, keeps a history.

• 'Near-real-time Analysis': the analysis application pulls a fraction of the images and processes them.

  Questions: how big is the fraction to be processed? What are the time restrictions?

• 'Eiger': to be started.
