It happened that a user was prompted for a keyring password logging into an ExpPc with a DESY account without a local home directory.
The issue was resolved by deleting the files in this afs directory:
~/.local/share/keyrings
If a local home directory exists, the conflicting keyring file can be in one of these directories:
~/.gnome2/keyrings ~/.local/share/keyrings
