Data structures in dCache - backgrounder

The dCache provides tape and disc pools allowing for data archiving and long term data analysis. Currently it holds tarballs as created by the migrate script in the tape pool, i.e. the DESY 'traditional' dCache consisting of disks with tape backend. Data stored in the tape pool can be restored to a disc only instance in dCache via the data portal ($\gamma$-portal) which extracts the single files allowing for data analysis on a mid to long term time scale.
