This manual describes the ONLINE program that is used at many experimental stations of HASYLAB.
ONLINE controls the beamline components, the monochromator and the diffractometer. It performs data acquisition and monitors the measurements. ONLINE runs under Linux (and LynxOS and OpenVMS (Alpha and VAX)). It communicates with the electronical equipment via CAMAC, VME, IEEE-488 or RS232.
The default interfaces to ONLINE are the command interpreter and full screen menus. In addition there is a network interface which allows remote clients to interact with ONLINE via a tcp socket connection. Finally ONLINE is available as a program library.
ONLINE can run in a simulation mode on any Linux PC.
Since ONLINE is nothing but SPECTRA running in an on-line mode, it is recommended to read the SPECTRA manual for a description of the interpreter, the graphics and the data management.
