The device list is a binary file containing all information about the CAMAC/VME system, in particular the stepping motors and their current positions. It is loaded by the startup file exp_ini.exp: load/noconfirm. The device list is automatically written during the image exit.
A new version of online.dev is created automatically after calibrate commands. The user should do this manually after substantial changes of motor parameters, like limits, speed, etc. A new copy of the device list is created by:

Whenever the device list is
created, a copy of the previous version is
written to online_iiii.dev.
