Transferring single files past staging

For accessing single files one has to stage the data first via the portal. The staging procedure will extract the tarball to dedicated disc only space in dCache which can be accessed (read-only) from in- and outside DESY. In case one has requested data staging via the portal one will receive an email when the staging process has finished. The email is sent to the email address associated to the DOOR account and contains the path where to find the data.

When data has been staged to dCache disk it is possible to transfer selected data to your home institute. As you cannot connect directly the server with the user data (it is behind a firewall), you have to tunnel through the firewall. Thus you have to establish a tunnel through an entry point (i.e. bastion) which allows access from outside DESY.
How to set up a tunnel and transfer data using WinSCP as well as rsync is explained in the following (other tools like e.g. scp should work in a similar way).
